I loved living in this house while going to school in Ames. The block is set up so that there is a bike trail and no houses behind the houses (we all have double long lots). I planted several apple and lilac trees in the back yard. I also planted several lovely spring bulbs and created a patch of lilies in the front yard. There is a nice row of peonies dividing the yard from the neighbors. I also placed a small fish pond in the fenced back yard. Not the entire yard is fenced, but the portion directly behind the house is, which makes this a great place to own a dog. I even dug a small fire pit near the bike trail.
The garage is large, and a great place to store extra items. It is detached and only a few feet from the back door of the house.
The house opens with an old fashioned wood entry way which has a closet to store your coats and a drawer at the bottom for shoes. Above the closet there is more storage space, which I used for linens and extra quilts. There are also 4 drawers, a counter, and sliding doors for extra storage. These were a great place to store tools and my hats and gloves.
From the entry way you enter the neutral living room, which has hardwood flooring. I did strip it while I lived there, however, I did it by hand and Im sure it could be taken up another notch. I also put trim (wains coating?) around the floor in this room. Off to the left is a spare bedroom, which I started to paint in an underwater theme and couldnt bear to cover up with white before I left. However, unless you or children you have or know love the sea, I am sure you will change it. The room has a hardwood floor.
From the living room you can go into the spare bed room, upstairs, or into the dinning room. There is a lovely archway creating the transition to the dinning room from the living room with a built in what not shelf between the rooms. The dinning room is currently a bold rosy flower color, but could easily be changed. I love color and paint each room every few years.
To the right of the dinning room is the kitchen. It is white with speckled cupboards (though white cupboards look good, I wanted something I could spill on). I bought the fridge and stove new when I moved in and they are in great condition. One window looks into the back yard over the goldfish pond.
From the dinning room you may also turn left into the mudroom which contains the washer, drier, and a closet for storage. I miss that washer, it is oversized and you can easily fit a queen sized comforter in it! This room was carpeted when I first moved in and now has linoleum/congoleum flooring. Off to the left is bathroom and off to the right is a door to the outside.
If you travel upstairs you will find an oversized landing. I understand this was more common in the past. I used it as a library and craft room, but you may want to convert it into an office or third bedroom. Walk through it and you will find the master bedroom.
I do currently have it listed with a realtor and you can find a description at. This house must go and I am willing to entertain offers.
